no sound on tv through hdmi via Nvidia Shield

I can't get any sound on my TV when I connect my Shield Portable. This is an issue only on my TV as I have no problems on my friends TV's. I tried the sound about app and set it to HDMI and still no dice. It is a cheaper TV and I am wondering if it has no support for hdmi audio. Any ideas?

The hdmi spec requires digital audio support.

It's possible that you've run into our old friend and hdmi's dirty little secret - an arbitration error.

Those are sometimes hard to ring out and never make any sense and often appear as missing either picture or sound.

Believe it or not, I've seen this cured a number of times with a different cable - and if you can, try one half as long or twice as long as the one you have now.

Also - and I had this happen to me - look into the hdmi port on the TV with a STRONG light and if you need, a magnifying glass.

I had a no sound issue that was caused by one of the wires jumping the plastic tracks and shorting its neighbor.

I fixed it with a needle, patience and persuasion - TV off of course!

I have used 2 different cables on 3 different HDMI ports and I can't get sound. Every other TV I have tried it on has no problems. My TV just won't give sound through any HDMI port. I am wondering if because my tv was cheaper that it only delivers image and not audio via HDMI.

HDMI must deliver sound or it's not HDMI, regardless of price.
