Help No text notification sound

Hi Everyone,
On my ZTE Valet with Verizon coverage, everything seemed to be working fine, till I noticed I had texts I hadn't heard the "tone" for. Figured I just hadn't heard it......... When I noticed it again, I checked my volume control--all the way up. I had someone text me, and sure enough, I got the text, but no 'ding' noise to tell me a text had arrived. Another check of the volume control assured me that it was up. I had someone call me. The ringer works fine. I figured it must be a 'settings' thing. So I pressed the 'settings' symbol, then the 'systems settings' symbol, then the 'sound' selection, and get a message which says: "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped." No 'turn it back on' button, no nothing. Just an "ok" button to click on. This is the third day, no end in sight. I've tried restarting my phone, and shutting it all the way off and back on again without (good) result. Any help?

Try: Open messaging, touch menu then select settings. Scroll down to select ringtone. Maybe silent has been selected by mistake.

Thank you so much, problem solved. When I selected ringtones, "default ringtone" was checked, and "silent" was NOT checked, so I thought your fix wouldn't work, but as soon as I chose a new ringtone, it worked perfectly. Thanks again.

Did you have trouble with Google Text-to-Speech first?

Immediately after reboot, is the settings menu frozen? Can you get Text to Speech turned off before settings freezes?

If you mean speech-to-text, no I didn't. Settings menu has never been frozen. I think you might be replying to the wrong thread.
