Help Non-AT&T user with an AT&T phone :\

Hi guys,

I bought a new, unlocked HTC One X online on amazon, but when I got it, it was configured to work on AT&T, of which I am not a member.

The problem is, instead of the usual "Settings > About > Software updates > Check now" way of updating my device, I have a "Settings > AT&T software update" option only, and because I'm not an AT&T user, I can't use it to update my device.

Does anyone know a way around this? Is there any way to change it back or maybe transferring the update files from my computer somehow?
Will resetting to factory settings help?

Thanks!

I got a notification saying "checkin succeeded", but nothing else happens...

I'm outside the US - could that be related to the issue?

That seems possible. It seems like you got rather ripped off, especially if the phone is branded with the AT&T logo.

It should be possible to update using an RUU, but I'm not sure if that would remove your unlock. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in soon.
