hi all..

I have a Dell XPS 17" laptop... it is 4 yrs old..the OEM battery has been dead for a while..

so I ordered an cheap new non-oem battery off ebay.. it had a lot of great reviews.

the product came very fast.. looked new and quality construction.

it is a 9 cell; 7800 mah battery...

i fully charged it...
boot up my laptop..
unplugged the power cord / charger..

the laptop says it 100% charged..
only has 1.50 hrs of battery life
i use it.. and get around 1.4 hrs of use.

i cycled the charge 4 times.. still did not get better..
so sent it back for an exchange..
cost $28 for the battery (free shipping)..shipping the battery back cost me $9.75.

got the replacement... same performance... 1.4hrs of use.
I will cycle charge this a few times... to make sure it might improve.

is this what I should expect from a 7800mah / 9 cell battery on a 17 laptop?

Update... as the percentage dropped to 35% / 45 mins left.. the laptop died.. it would not start up; no lights at all... until I plugged in the power cable.

There have been a lot of fake batteries sold for Android phones on eBay and the like, particularly originating from overseas (think: Asian countries, mostly) with very similar results. If I were you I'd stick to finding OEM batteries.

I just replaced the batteries in my UPS - I made sure I bought genuine OEM batteries (still heavily discounted :D) so that if I had a problem I could contact APC and get replacements in case the battery(ies) were bad after limited use.

Remember the old adage: "If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is."

A 9 cell battery should give a whole lot more time than 1.5hrs. Heck, mine (OEM) says 1.5hrs remaining and its at 25% charge.

I would assume that no, that isn't normal. I even got one of those batteries, I managed to get 2+ hours out of it (which is a little lower than it was new with the OEM battery, but I'm not complaining for $20 battery for a 5 year old laptop). 7800 mAh seems pretty low for a laptop battery though. Do you mean 78000 mAh?
