Non-rooted phone and MyBackup

MiG29

Newbie
I am thinking about using MyBackup as a backup solution but it says that for non-rooted phones it will not backup apk+data and market links. What does this mean exactly??? Is it going to backup my apps or not?
I don't really want to root my phone.

Somebody?
I am sure that someone knows what it means to backup apk and data and market links.
I tired looking but couldn't find a definitive answer.

It backs up the apps you have installed ......BUT... its doesn't back up the data in them (e.g. saved games) and it won't back up the market link. Assumes this means the update notifications wont happen

Cool. Thanks. That's what I needed to know.
Not much use then I guess. I was looking for a solution that would be able to fully recover my phone if something got screwed up, but I guess there's no way to do that with non-rooted phones.

Correct. If you want to back up everything, you have to be rooted.

I may be wrong but i believe the app backups up everything minus market links on non rooted phones. This is how it behaves for me unless I think it backs up data when it really doesn't

I have not tested this by doing a hard set and restore (don't want to go through the trouble), but before I was rooted and I backed up my apps with MyBackup Pro, I just selected the apps and said backup.

Now that I am rooted, when I backup the apps, I get an option to back APK's only or APK's and data. So, if I had to guess, it sounds like non rooted phones won't backup data since that option isn't presented to the user....

Hmmm...too bad. It would have been nice to be able to do a full-backup. I guess I have to think about rooting possibly.

Yeah, that is the main reason I rooted. Too bad there isn't a comprehensive way to backup without root. Good luck if you decide to root. I am sure you will find plenty help here on the forums!

BTW, I like your username... I assume you are a airplane fan?

If you are not rooted, it can backup data only from applications that have specifically added MyBackup support.

If you are rooted, it can backup data from any app.

Thank you for that clarification. I forgot that feature exists.
