Non-VZW phones?

Mayhem

Android Expert
Not sure if this has been asked before, but are there phones available elsewhere that you would not otherwise find on VZW? In other words, could a "pure" Android phone (like directly from Google) work on Verizon?

CDMA is a little more tricky than GSM for comparability. If it runs on the same bandwidth, you may get 3G, but 4G is a little difficult as most other 4G CDMA carriers do not use the 700mhz band.

I know other people tried to port my phone (VS920) to other carriers and have 3G but no one was successful in getting 4G yet.

GSM phones like the Google Edition S4 & One as well as the Nexus 4 will not work on Verizon. The only "pure" google devices that Verizon has really carried to date are the Motorola Droid 1, Motorola Xoom, and Samsung Galaxy Nexus. However all of these are at least 1.5 years old. Until Verizon enables Voice over LTE, don't expect to be able to buy any more of these pure Google devices because Google has more or less given up on CDMA after getting burned too many times.

Except that Google is going to sell the One for Verizon.

No evidence has suggested that the Google edition of the one that will be available on the play store will be compatible with Verizon when it launches in 13 days. Verizon is finally getting a variant of the one that will be skinned with sense like all the rest of the carriers. The Google edition that runs stock Android will only be available gsm sim unlocked with no cdma compatibility. Google washed is hands clean of cdma after the galaxy nexus mess and swore never again.

The device will come SIM-unlocked and unlocking its bootloader will be a piece of cake. This edition of the HTC One will support LTE on both AT&T and T-Mobile. And unless Verizon and Sprint magically switch to GSM or begin allowing unauthorized devices on their network, those folks are out of luck.

That is contrary to what I have read.

EDIT: In fact, doesn't this look as though it will work on VZW?
