Help Nonexistent Pictures Taking up ALL Space

I have read so many storage-related forums all across the internet, and this problem is STILL not solved. My phone is being STUPID. I've only ever had a teeny amount of photos at a time, but the Pictures bar always kept taking up the majority of the Internal Storage space. Now, I've given in and deleted all but 14 of my pictures (FOURTEEN) and I went back to check on the Internal Storage calculations and you know what happened?
The Pictures bar grew. Yes, that's right, it is now taking up nearly the entirety of the Internal Storage bar. I have fourteen pictures on my phone, after reluctantly deleting the eight or so in my Camera roll, and now... my pictures are somehow taking up MORE space?
This is why I can never update or download any apps; I apparently have fourteen too many photos. I'm furious. After deleting pictures, cache, and two apps, I now have only a tiny tiny amount of Free Space left.
So what's the deal?!
Here is exactly what my Storage Settings tell me about Internal Storage:
Total Space: 2.67GB
Apps: 439MB
Pictures, Videos: 1.90GB (This was 1.44 before I deleted eight pics!)
Audio: 32KB
Downloads: 1.56MB
Misc: 4.91MB
Available: 260MB, 125MB for applications only

I have done nearly everything, and nothing ever works. Someone please tell me why deleting a couple of pictures somehow took up nearly all of my space?! I only have two apps I put on my phone, having deleted a few others to at least make the App space go down, but everything I do with the few remaining pictures only takes up MORE space! Keep in mind I've NEVER had more than thirty pictures on my phone at a time, thanks to problems like this. Now I have fourteen, and hardly any remaining space.
I am extremely dissatisfied with this phone and I'd absolutely love to set it on fire and drive off a cliff.

Thank you! Deleting those thumbnail file seems to have worked for now. I couldn't figure out how to enable hidden files, so I just plugged it into my computer. Also, the link you posted mentioned something about replacing the deleted file with a folder of the same name, but I'm not sure what that will do, exactly. Regardless, thanks a lot!
