Noob here....Root??

Underneath Android is a basic computer operating system called Linux. The most privileged user in Linux (the "administrator" for Windows folks) is called "root". To "root" your phone means you have broken down any security that the manufacturer has built into the phone, and you have accessed the base Linux system as "root". This allows you (as a programmer) to do pretty much anything you want ... which may include accidentally "bricking" your phone, which will render it useless. :(

In practice, this means you can access the "guts" of the phone and replace (or modify) the version of Android if you want.

^TLDR?^

Its kind of like being an admin on a PC, you can change or do anything you want, such as overclocking or using root access apps :D

I LOVE Linux. Have been into Linux since I first got on the internet in 1997. Much better than Windows, and you don't have to restart once a new app is installed. THE BEST!

You should be fine without a wipe, unless your phone starts acting buggy and fcing things.. If it does just do the wipe, you won't lose root.
