Noob question about list of recent apps

When I long-press the home button to bring up the list of recently used apps, is there a difference if I slide them off left or right? Just wondering ...

Nope. Left or right swipe both close those apps.
btw: As is well documented in this forum there's no need to close those apps. They're not slowing the phone down or anything like that.

I was wondering. I like to keep just a few in there, makes it easy when I'm driving to switch back and forth with maps (no iOS6 b-s for me) and Pandora and a clock

May I recommend the nova prime launcher that is now on sale for 25 cents? The gesture control makes it extremely easy to open apps and switch back and forth between your favorite apps. Gestures like double tap, swipe two fingers up and swipe two fingers down can open these apps for you.
Another great app for easy app access is Swipepad. It has the advantage of not having to go back to the home screen - you can open anything from within any app.
