Help Noob- Wifi

Hey guys

I just got an unlocked galaxy 3 and am experiencing some problems with my wifi and have a couple other questions too. Take note, i am a noob at smart phones.

The first thing i did before anything else was throw in the kies disc and update it with that. My current specs are
GT-i5800l
2.1 (eclair) update 1
2.6.29 kernel.
Is this the most update version of the 2.1 version? I have no clue
Also, is updating to 2.2 through flashing still the only available option? Is it suggested for a noob to attempt solo?

So, for the wifi it keeps giving me the attention a network error has occurred on the market page or on google search "web page not available". And this is when my wifi shows 2-3 bars??? I was able to login to the google account for market using a diff wifi source so do you think its my router? If it helps any, under wifi settings my wifi network constantly shows "scanning" on the wifi network bar. Is it a lemon phone? Should i factory reset and see if wifi works then without an update?

Another thing is how do i prevent my phone from using carrier data instead of wifi when i select internet? Or does that automatically happen when wifi is checked on?

And has anyone had difficulty using skype messenger or spotify on the galaxy 3?

Thanks! I am completely lost right now

hi matt,

most people are on 2.2, officially the release was a bit sporadic to say the least.

i'm also a bit of a noob, but flashing the upgrade is a lot easier than you think, check out rudolph895 tutorials on youtube, its how i got started, just make sure you follow the instructions, roms can be found here-

sometimes hard reset (pin in the back) of your modem can help wifi connection problems (is the password entered correctly, caps sensitive), a hard reset to your phone cant do any harm, but you will lose your apps and data etc., the best thing about root is that you can back all these up using titanium backup etc.

and to make sure that your data connection is off, download APNdroid from the market, a simple widget will switch your data connection off and on.

i use the full skype, and havent had any problems, not heavy use mind you!

good luck!

well i have a samsung galaxy apollo and ....when i try to access wi-fi it tell me that unable to scan network.....am tired of this...........

i use wifi for 4-5 hours per day during the week, and continuously at the weekend if i am at home, never had a problem..
