North Korea long-range rocket broke apart after launch, U.S. official said.

U.S.: North Korea launches rocket - CNN.com

CNN said:
Pyongyang, North Korea -- Defying warnings from the international community, North Korea launched a long-range rocket on Friday, but it appears to have broken apart shortly afterward, U.S. officials said.
Tokyo, which had threatened to shoot down the rocket if it appeared to be threatening its territory, had called for restraint. But Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda said Thursday, "We are fully prepared to deal with any contingency," according to the news agency Kyodo.
Countries that include the United States and South Korea see the launch as a cover for a ballistic missile test. International leaders had urged North Korea to cancel the launch, but Pyongyang refused to back down, insisting the operation is for peaceful purposes.

Awww shucks. You mean their 'celebratory' rocket didn't work. Dang. They should have went with one of the $50 ones you can buy at wallmart....
;)
while not 100% on topic, I do find the fact that NK is so adamant about having a 'space program' disturbing. Because to me, that means a missile program. But, I think MAD still applies ....

"unblemished track record of failure,"
I lol'd.

^ You know, that article says that in the past, following their 'space' launches [failed] then then preformed atomic tests ... < which I read as meaning detonations.

Hope it doesn't come to that.

Interesting how they admitted it to the people though. Feel bad for everyone who worked on the rocket project too. They'll be in shit. Of course I'm happy they cant launch an ICBM at Europe :D

minor setback..... after all they didnt claim to have a viable product.... thats why its called testing...... lookup how many US rockets fail every year

of course if they asked nicely Obama would probably just sell them one
