Not a Lot of Choices

I am a Verizon customer and it is the only carrier here that has good coverage. I currently have a HTC Rezound (great phone when I got it) but it has had an overheating problem since upgrade to ICS. I am eligible at the end of August to upgrade but will forfeit my unlimited data from my grandfathered plan. That is going to have to happen since I will not pay full price for a phone.

My problem is the phones currently being offered. The MAXX HD sounds like a pretty nice phone and has impressive capabilities. A couple friends of mine got the Samsung S4 when they first came out and had continuous problems with dropping calls in well covered areas. They went to the iPhone 5 and had no dropped call problems.

I am not an Apple person and want to stay with the Android phones. Bottom line, is the MAXX HD a good phone?

Thanks in advance.

Just a question about your rezound, did you do a factory data reset after going to ICS. Your over heating issues could be solved by that.

The RAZR MAXX HD is a fantastic phone. Has the best radios in it for 3G & 4G coverage in weak signal areas. I tried the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, and really liked it, but the weak signal coverage of the Note 2 was the primary reason I went back to the MAXX HD.

Good luck...

I tried the MAXX HD at my last upgrade, and it immediately went back. I got the DNA instead and couldn't be happier with it.

Can't say what about the MAXX I hated, but man, did I ever hate it. And for what it's worth, the DNA gets better reception than the MAXX.

Looks like I will reactivate my DINC and work with it for a while. Hopefully something worthwhile will come out at the end of the year or first of the new year.

I had the Razr Maxx HD for a while. Battery life, build quality, and cell reception were great, but it was otherwise unimpressive and a little boring. The camera was pretty bad - ok in natural daylight, but otherwise terrible for me. I noticed that they were selling for a good price on Swappa, so I sold mine before it started to lose value, as all Android phones seem to do. I picked up an iPhone 5 to tide me over, since that will keep a pretty good value for a while, but am pining for a good android handset. I don't want the Note 2 because of size, and I don't want the SG4 because I've read that radios are no better than the SG3, which did not work for me. My office and weekend place are in weak signal areas, and so far only Razr Maxx HD and iPhone work well in both places. I've started thinking about the DNA, but the fact that the resale market is flooded with them, doesn't speak we'll for the phone. However, that also means that one can be had for a decent price.

What phone might I hold out for? HTC One equivalent on Verizon? Motorola X? Or should I just get a used DNA and sit out the upcoming round of new releases? I don't care much about storage space, but I do need strong radios, a good camera, snappy performance, and a battery that wil last from morning to night.

Thoughts?

I'd say get something used and hold out for something better like the "Droid" One or the Moto X. Verizon hasn't introduced much of anything new in a while so hopefully they're due for some good new ones. Since you have until August, we should know more by then!
