Help Not getting Venmo alerts

MoodyBlues

Compassion is cool!
I'm not receiving notifications from Venmo, despite having done all the things I would advise someone else to do. :)

As you can see, everything's set correctly:

I -do- receive email notifications; my email settings are identical to the above.

This started on my previous phone, Moto X 2nd Generation. At one point, it just stopped working.

It has never worked on my new phone (actually two--I got a replacement for the first one), Moto Z² Force Edition. The first Z² shipped with Nougat and I updated to Oreo; the replacement shipped with Oreo (8.0.0).

For the record: I've done everything up to and including deleting its cache and data prior to uninstalling/reinstalling...all to no avail. :(

Ideas?

Ever since android 7 developers have been having trouble with their apps that need to run services in the background. We used to be able to use what is called an IntentService for this. Google has now replaced that with a JobIntentService which is more restrictive for improved security.

Now the problem is that many devs either are not aware of or just haven't gotten around to updating their code to use JobIntentService. Or may not know how to.

Note:
You've probably done this, but just in case... In your settings, make sure to disable battery optimizations for this particular app so that it's not killed off the background. This could also be the reason.

Yep. You know me! :)

That's interesting about the change Google made, but not all devs know about. Isn't there some protocol they follow when adding/changing things?

We have an intermittent problem with Ring's notifications. My live-in helper and I -both- want to receive alerts for all Ring activity, whether it's motion detected on the front porch, or someone actually ringing the Ring doorbell. At first, we both did--now we're not.

Specifically, *I* am the one not getting all alerts. This is a problem when I'm home, she's not, and someone rings the doorbell. I want to be able to talk to them [via my phone], but since I'm not getting the alert, I can't [because, depending on where I am in the house, I may not hear the actual doorbell]. It's frustrating!

I found out about it by surprise when services stopped working in some of my own apps for android 8+. I had to scramble to learn the new android java class(JobIntentService) and update my apps. No notifications or alerts are sent to developers by google. You find out when you find out.

As of android 8, I stopped receiving notifications for K-9 mail. After disabling battery optimizations for it, I get them occasionally. Hope they update it.
