Not receiving all text messages (Verizon)

About 3 or 4 weeks ago I stopped receiving all text messages. I still get some, especially after I've texted that person, but I've found out that people have sent me texts that never came through. I use the Google Messenger app but they don't show up under the stock messaging app either. It's not a notification issue, they just don't arrive at my phone. Anyone else have a problem like this? Do I need to do a factory reset? I've had the phone since July and only noticed the issue in the last month or so.

Go to settings>device maintenance>battery>unmonitored apps and add your preferred message app. There is something with way the battery handles "sleeping" apps that affects the delivery of certain notifications.
