Help Not receiving notification alerts with Message+ on my S5

I was having a problem last week and I swicthed apps to the default message app but after a few days realized I didn'r like it so I went back to message+ and chose a new alert sound and it worked all weekend. Now today it has stopped working again and I'm not sure why. I have made sure I didn't silence something or turn the volume down but everything is in order and should be working.

Any ideas what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Is the default message app back to Message+ via Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> More (I presume that's where the setting is on the S5).

No that's not the one, its the Verizon message app. The icon says message+ but when you open it, it says Verizon messages.
