Android Question

Hey,

I just noticed this error "Not registered on network" when I tried to call someone on my Samsung Galaxy S3 (Android 4.3). Nothing was done to the phone after it last worked fine (a few hours ago). There is no null IMEI problem, the IMEI provided on the phone matches the one under the battery. I tried going to settings and selecting my network manually but it said "unable to register, try later" or something similar. The SIM card isn't damaged as it works fine on another Andriod device, and my S3 won't work with other SIM cards either. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks.

How long have you had the phone? If you recently bought it second-hand, are you sure you can trust the seller? If they did something silly, like stopped paying bills on a contract phone before the minimum contract was up, the network would block it, same as they would if a phone is reported stolen. Hopefully it's nothing like that, but since I don't know the circumstances I thought I should mention this possibility.

Otherwise I'm really not sure what could cause this (apart obviously from a hardware failure). A software update is the only other thing I can think of to try (you could try factory reset, but I'll be a bit surprised if that does it. Probably should try it at some point though). Have you tried talking to your carrier? They aren't always useful, but they might be able to tell you something, e.g. whether they had a problem with that phone's IMEI.

Thanks for the reply. I checked in with my carrier. They said there were no problems with my phone number in their system or anything like that and suggested I tried my SIM card in a different phone (which I had already done, as mentioned above).

As for the device itself, it's not second-hand as I bought it brand new from a store around a year and a half ago and have been using it with this same SIM card until today.

I think I solved it... This is quite random but I installed C Launcher on my phone yesterday (the phone still worked after playing around with it and customizing it to my liking). I just uninstalled it, restarted the phone and it registered to my network like nothing ever happened. I don't see a logical link here but maybe this will help someone.

OK, you are right, that is very unexpected! But I'm glad you worked it out without having to do anything drastic.

Welcome to the forum, by the way :)
