my note 10.1 has no multi-task icon in the upper corner of note, internet explorer etc

Hi, welcome to Android Forums, I hope you are enjoying your Samsung Galaxy Note otherwise.
First make sure you have the most updated version of Android on your device, the latest for the Note 10.1 is 4.1.2. You can check this in Settings > About Device. It will also allow you to update from there.
Only certain apps are enabled for multi-tasking. Unfortunately, it's a short list for the moment. To check the list of multi-tasking apps, pres the ^ button on the bottom.
Also, the location of the multi-tasking button's on the enabled apps are in different locations. For Facebook, the multi-tasking button is on the lower right hand corner. For many others, it's in the upper right.
