I have had a issue with my note having problems loading content like Facebook and Pandora. Today my brother was playing with my phone turns on airplane mode and then turns wifi back on. I now can us above apps fine and Web pages load much faster. What gives? Is it the cellular modem causing the issue or is it the software not knowing what data system to use?

Hi,
It is very hard to say what changed, but I guess all is well so long as the connection does not degrade again. By default the phone will prioritise WLAN connections (which for me means slower connectivity when at home) in order to protect your data tariff quota. However, you can get the phone to use both to speed up the connection. You can do this by turning on the Download Booster option (swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers to find it).
So, no real answer, but I hope things are a little clearer now.
