Note 4 won't connect to 4g

Been this way ever since I had it... just thought it was a lack of 4g towers in my rural area.

Then one day, the thought occurred to me that I have a 4g JetPack WiFi router registered to use on trips away from home.

So, I fired that up and then with DATA off, let the Note 4 connect to it on WiFi...
the download speeds instantly jumped up where they should be, in the 30+ mbps arena.

so, called VZW customer service. They got it to work for me once, then when the screen locked again, it quit...

I'm now wondering if my Note 4 has a bad radio in it? And just maybe that is why I got a good deal on it from Swappa ??

Anyone got any ideas on what I could try different?
I have gone to Mobile Networks and switched it to all 3 modes.
  • Global works but always goes to 1x on telcom calls
  • LTE/CDMA works but always goes to 1x on telcom calls (probably normal)
  • LTE/GSM/UMTS sometimes DATA will work, usually won't. have seen 4g once.

The GSM mode will sometimes let it hook up to 4g, and it works good, but not reliable... but, I can't get telco calls or SMS.... as VZW is a CDMA service.

so, there it is... would appreciate comments from Note 4 owners about your 4g experience.

Where I live even 2g is not reliable, but when I go down the hill to a town (with running electricity etc) 4g works fine. (slight exaggeration but you know what I mean!). Have not yet tested it with recent upgrade to 6.0.1, but it worked fine with 5.1.1 That is with a SM-N910F

Android 6.0 is not available yet for the Verizon Note 4 as of yet....
maybe that will fix it.

I will listen to what other Verizon Note 4 users are saying when it comes out, and if 4g is working for them, I will install it.

I am very upset that I can't get 4g on my Note 4...

Just now, on 3g the Note 4 on www.speedof.me gave me
1.38 Mbps download
0.2 Mbps upload

Switched to the Verizon JetPack 4g only WiFi router and got this:
Download 7.18 Mbps
Upload 6.53 Mbps

note that VZW does not strangle you on Uploads on 4g !!!

Back onto this 4g subject again.

those of you are are using the Note 4, are any of you having any problems with accessing 4g ??

my Note 4 just simply will not recognize a 4g signal. try as I may, I am beginning to think it is a hardware issue in my device.

but now that Marshmallow has been released, is there anyone with the Note 4 that has taken on Verizon's Marshmallow upgrade and noted that 4g is working with your phone?

and if it is working now, was it working for you previously?

Forgive me if this has been asked & answered (especially if by yours truly :paperbagdroid: :D :
Have you tried using a new SIM Card?

no I have NOT! and that is a damn good suggestion.
I just decided a few minutes ago that tomorrow, this phone and me are going to the Verizon Retail Center.

I just let MM install an hour ago, and have been playing with the phone.
I happily am able to say, that Verizon did not Royally Screw the pooch this time, as they have on previous OS changes.

everything, mostly looks just like it did. The "Settings" icon is a pretty blue now, and I like that better than the old bland blah one.

MM is working, but 4g is not..... still using my 4g WiFi router instead.

:) Color me Happy Now :)

I stopped in at a Verizon Retail store in Beaver Creek, Ohio this morning.... that is a long way from the grasslands of Oklahoma......

I was met at the front door by a couple of very charged up individuals who both chimed in with "how can we help you?" :p

Me? "This phone has never, ever, worked on 4g. Customer Service reprogrammed it remotely, and it worked until the screen was locked.... and then 'nevermore' "

The Chiming Twins: Sounds like the SIM card is corrupted. ;)

15 minutes later, I have a Note 4 that recognizes 4g
