Help Note 8 screen lock

Poochie

Lurker
No matter what settings I use, I can't get the phone to require my fingerprint or my code to open. All I have to do it press the home button and everything is available. In the settings, it shows pin and fingerprint as my security type. However, the phone can time out, sit there untouched for a while, but I can open it right up by just swiping it. Any ideas what I may be overlooking?

What carrier?
Do you restore from an old note model ?
Using 3rd party launchers?

Does the phone work as intended otherwise?

I might have been too hasty. There must be a time period that it can sit before it needs to be unlocked. It's working now that I actually put it down. Former iPhone owner and I'm lo ing this thing. Just got it this morning

You can also set trusted locations that will defeat the lock screen setting so watch for that. And there are a few other trusted options to check out. They do have their uses. I have mine set to trust my home as I have no worries about someone unauthorized getting into my phone here and I don't want to be forever unlocking my phone at home!

Yeah it's a nice feature, I set trusted locations for home and work (I have a small business). You can also set trusted devices. I have my car stereo, bluetooth speakers and headphones set as trusted, so my phone unlocks automatically when I am using them.

yeah i use to have everything "smart unlock" my phone but now with the iris scan thing, i only have my home as a trusted source. i just like using my eyes to unlock the phone.. :)

I didn't have my home as a trusted location at the time. I just think they give a grace period before it locks the screen. I'm not sure how long it is, but I know that it works and I also know that the fingerprint sensor is easy to find and works quickly. You can also swipe on it to pull down the notification bar. Cool feature!

You can change that too. Go to Settings->Lock screen and security->Secure lock settings->Secured lock time

That determines how long after the screen turns off before the phone locks. It would be cool to set up different profiles to be able to change this based on where you are. Like stay unlocked at home and in the car, lock after 10 minutes at work, lock immediately anywhere else. But as far as I know there's only the one-size-fits-all approach, save for the smart unlock options mentioned before, and I think the default was set to 10 minutes.

What's driving me nuts is having to swipe up even when the screen is unlocked already. I don't want to turn security off entirely, but it drives me crazy having to push the side button AND then swipe up a thousand times a day

I don't like using the finger print because if you get pulled over and for whatever reason the pork decides to put you in cuffs. They can use your finger to unlock your phone. Now I know I don't do anything illegal but who knows what these bacon pig police man is up too
