Crude

Android Expert
If I can afford a new smart phone on you're network, I'm not going to need $25. Especially not when you'll make over $2000 on the two year contract I get you. Also, if you could at least compeat with the year old EVO I would have a phone that's worth "showing".

For those of you who are wondering what's going on...
I added a line this week and got an e-mail today from verizon offering me a $25 credit for showing my friends my new smart phone and getting them to switch to Verizon with a smart phone.

I'm kind of insulted by this because my monthly bill is now $170. That's $2040 a year just in services. They are offering me 7% of their take on a 2 year contact that I worked for.

How bout you contact me when you'll willing to give me a free smart phone upgrade for getting you the business? Then I'll be willing to show of my cool new phone to the next guy.

You're complaining that they gave you a $25 credit? You can give it to me if you don't want it. They don't have to do that, you know. You are not entitled to anything, and you can't complain about the cost of your phone and service, nobody forced you to sign the contract and buy the phone, you knew what you were getting into. So stop acting like you are entitled to anything and be happy that you just saved $25. And if you want to get paid for getting people to switch to Verizon, go get a job at a Verizon store as a sales rep.

It has nothing to do with harassing people to switch to verizon. Not worth a rant my man. I know that I have switched two people to verizon from AT&T (both had iphones) because they loved my DX. I wasnt showing them to harrass them, I wasnt showing them my phone because I wanted them to join Verizon, I was just showing my phone. If you dont want the $25 credit, then never show a single person your phone and if if you do and they switch, dont tell Verizon. Simple as that..

Check your math. $25 of $2000 is 1.25% not 7%

I think Hrethgir got your point, but your turning a mole hill into a mountain. If your not interested in the $25 credit and don't want to refer anyone then just delete the email and move on. BTW, that $2000/year service revenue isn't all profit but their profit margin is still significant.

Of course I'm turning a mole hill into a mountain. That's what a person does when he is offended. Look I had a job once where my employer gave everyone $100 for a federal...do you know how many friends remembered to just add my name in the referral box on their application? That's what I men by harass. This offer is an attempt to undervalue a referral in a highly competitive market.

This isn't really something I wanted to debate as much as I want to publicly call out Verizons shitty deal.

Why only call out Verizon? Sprint, Tmobile, and ATT offer the same "shitty" $25 credit. As buckguin already said, it's not worth the rant.

I'm not complaining about my bill or giving an entitlement rant. I'm saying that I don't need $25 if I can afford what I'm paying them AND that Verizon must think that I'm an idiot to get them a $2000 contract for 7% cut.
If I wanted to help Verizon into that kind of money I would need a bigger slice of the pie and I would not need to be solicited from Verizon in an email to do so. In fact $25 isn't enough for me to harass a friend into dropping my name while he's in the Verizon store signing up for service.

Reading your original post again, I'd say I got exactly your point. You feel entitled to more than the $25 they didn't have to give you. I can afford my monthly bill too, and don't NEED a $25 credit, but I'm not going to get cranky if they give me free money to use towards my bill either. And like I previously said, if you want a bigger slice of the pie, go get a job as a Verizon CSR. Anyways, to keep this from happening again, follow these simple steps:

1. Keep your phone in you pocket where nobody can see it.
2. Don't tell anyone anything about your phone.
3. If someone still somehow manages to see it and decides they want one too, tell them to NOT give your name to the rep because you don't want free money.

Believe it or not, I agree with crude.

I find it irritating that Verizon wants us to go out and make money for them, and are ponying up such a paltry sum for it.

It's basically like a $25 commission on selling a used car. That would be rather insulting.

So, no... it's not worth me putting any effort into.

That being said, if someone I know is switching to Verizon... then you can bet I'll have them use my name... money is money after all. $25 or not.

Well, well, well, well, well.

I'll bet we're all done being personal, and that next up, it's just posting to attack the issue and not each other, yes?

I'm kinda sure that everyone wants to be excellent to each other. And before anyone asks - infractions and warnings were passed out to all necessary parties and no one was singled out.

That Report button to the left of any offensive post - it's your friend. Let us help - it's our job and we like to help.

Carry on - be excellent to one another.

Wow... this thread got real short...

And Ted, how are the Princess Babes dude?!

I brag about my DX to half of my friends and co-workers. I am the neighborhood tech geek and have managed to go three months with sub $25 phone bills as a result of people switching to a Verizon smart phone on my recommendations. Was I putting any real effort in? No. Do I wish they would give me a little something more for the several thousand I've made for them? Sure. Is it worth complaining about on the interweb? Not at all.
