Nothing happens when I connect to PC

Hello when i connect my phone to my PC nothing happens and im not sure why. I had a older phone which when i connected it it would open 2 folders one SD card folder and a folder which i assumed was the phone. But on my current phone (Blu Dash X Plus) nothing pops up the USB icon shows on the phone and ive tried all of the options. Can anyone Assist?

Did you put the phone in file transfer mode? Android now connects in charge only mode by default

Yes when I plug into the pc it pops up media device (MTP) other than that no folders open
