Root Notification bar not working

Hi all,
I've recently rooted my galaxy s so I could get the froyo update & get rid of apps like layar that I never use!
Anyway since I've installed it I don't get notifications for email, pkt auctions etc and I can't download new or update existing apps!
Hope its a simple fix &i haven't broken it, please help any advise as I'm way out of my depth here.

How did you get "rid" of the apps. And which ones? And what the fishes said up too.

Yeah, it is i9000. I did the 2.1 upgrade & had a few extra force closes so read a bit more online where someone suggested a factory reset, great idea I thought so feet 1st as usual I proceeded to goose my phone.
Cheers for the replies.

But its not just the self installed android apps that are useless. Everything on the phone that's either android or google based will not work. My calendar, phone book, media players, email etc......

hi go onto setting then display and then scroll down to the notifications settings and tick the display messages in status bar..

It's not that easy unfortunately, everything android based just force closes the only thing I can do on my phone is call, text & use the basic internet through a samsung app everything involved with android is useless including my contacts although they're there I can't access anything since it force closes.
Sorry if I'm ranting, Leigh

Problem solved, not quite sure how?
I plugged into Kies and ran the latest 2.2 update then re-booted & it still didn't work so I turned off and pressed the vol up, menu & power button all together then I cleared cache & re-booted and now I'm going through the process of trying to remember what apps I had beforehand... Thanks to all and I'm not gonna mess with firm or software anymore..... Lesson learnt
