Today I got a few audible notifications. I heard the phone buzz (was set on silent mode with vib) a few times. Later, when I looked in the notification bar, I only saw the perpetual 5.0.1 update notification (I'm using 4.4.4).
Now, 8 hours late, I look in my desktop browser and I see several new emails, dated around the time I heard my phone. I look on my phone, and there are still no email notifications in the notification bar, but when I open Gmail, I see exactly the same new emails.
My theory is that the phone notified me audibly but put nothing on the notification bar. Any idea what's going on?
(Stock Nexus 5 phone with stock Gmail and no apps that I think could ever interfere)
