Is there an app out there or maybe just a setting that I'm over looking that turns that little flashing light off in the right hand corner of my moto droid??? It doesn't do any good to use it as a alarm clock if that light flashes and wakes you up in the middle of the night lol!!!*
 
When does it flash?

It could be because you have a voicemail, sms/mms, or email that you haven't checked.

Usually the light will continue to blink if you don't clear those notifications from your control bar.
 
I use "missed call" to customize the color of the LED displayed because I like the flashing light to tell me what I missed. You might be able to turn it off with that too.

Why don't you just turn the phone over so you don't see the light?
