notification light not working for verizon messages with s8

is there a trick to getting notification light to blink with verizon messages? i just got the s8 yesterday. i have realized email light only works with sound also, which is unfortunate, but i cannot get a light to work with verizon messages. the sound comes thru with new texts but no light. i have every possible notification setting that i am aware of set properly for this. messenger works fine also with a sound and light, so i know the green light does work. i am not yet sure about missed calls or any other apps i have notifications set for.

well, never mind perhaps. apparently once verizon sends a text, the light works :) strange. all i did before that was change the LED color from blue to green since the email light is blue.
 
well no, i guess the verizon text is the only one that's going to trigger the light..this is really frustrating.
