Notification "Pop Ups"?

Lurker
Hi this is my first post outside of the introduction so please bare with me.

Im new to the Android ecosystem and need a small amount of help with a constant notification I am receiving.

I receive a notification each day alerting me that "real Iphone 5 lock screen" is available for my phone. Is this common practice with Android (pop up ads for apps in notifications) or do I have some sort of malicious app installed?

When I touch the notification it takes me to the Play Store and shows a "Real Finger Print Scanner" app. Come to think it, I was getting a notification last week for this finger print scanner app thing.

I'm a bit worried that I have something "bad" installed on my phone.

Should I download some sort of virus scanner? Am I just being paranoid and these sort of notification "pop-ups" are common?

It seems like my phone is constantly trying to get me to download that finger print scanner. Please advise.

Thanks in Advance.

Sounds like you downloaded something that is giving you those pop-ups, I would download Addons Detector from the play store and scan your phone to see what app is doing that.

Some more advice for a newbie:
Read the reviews about apps before downloading - chances are that apps with airpush will have bad ratings and lots of reviews complaining about airpush ads (or any other bad behaviors).
