Notification/ringtone sound issue

Hi everyone, I gust got an unlocked HTC 10 directly from HTC and am having an issue with the ringtone volume. It sounds loud enough when choosing ringtone, but when the phone actually rings when receiving a call, that same ringtone sounds at least 20% quieter. The reason is; when the phone rings, the sound is only coming out of the bottom speaker, the top one is silent. When I play that same ringtone during the set up, both speakers are working. Anyone else experiencing this? I tried just about all the settings in sound & notification but nothing made any difference. I called HTC, their level one support concluded that I have a defective phone, but I do not agree, I've read on other forums that others are having the same problem. I'm trying to figure out how widespread this problem is.

Thank you in advance for any input...

In Settings > Sounds and Notifications do you have the 'Quiet ring on pickup' enabled?

Have you tried unticking this option and seeing if that makes a difference?

Apart from that the only thing I can think of is that it's a defective phone.

I tried every option there; no difference. I'm not sure if I have a defective phone. I've read on other forums that others are having the same issue. This appears to be be a design flaw. When I play the same ringtone or notification through any audio app, both top and bottom speakers are playing, however, when the phone rings or during any other notification like SMS or alarm, only the bottom speaker is on. I would be interested to find out if anyone else is having this problem. I called HTC, they said someone will call me to set up an exchange. I just hope that I won't miss their call... Haha...

I agree it sounds like a design flaw. If I had a good device otherwise (screen, etc.) I probably would NOT be willing to send it in under any circumstance.
They should be able to fix this issue with a software update. But convincing them they screwed up in a way and that they need to change it for everyone is the impossible task.

Maybe there is a 3rd party program from the Play Store that would utilize a different dialer and fire the ringtone to both speakers independent of the stock Android/HTC applications?

Did HTC run you through the Function Test for the Speakers?
In the phone dialer (like if you were going to dial a friend's phone number)
Dial: *#*#DIAG#*#* (aka *#*#3424#*#*)

(Be careful in this menu don't go messing around with things you don't know about)

Within the Function Test application select "Audio Test"

They did have me run the audio test, both speakers worked fine during the test. I am not sure that you can assign a different app for a ringtone, so don't know if this will work. They were supposed to call me on Monday to set up the exchange but so far no one called. Even if I receive a replacement, the first thing I will do is transfer the sim card and test the notification. If it doesn't work, I am sending the replacement back. I am not re-configuring the phone all over again

If I knew for sure that it would help, I would do it. But it's a lot of work and may not fix the issue.

99% of the time it makes the phone run a billion times better, *especially* after a major OS update. It should be a requirement IMO.

But yes, it may not help with your specific issue.

Do you have an old HTC Customer Service Ticket # that you can dig up and reference in a follow up query with HTC?
I don't expect that they would have suddenly changed the speaker output settings, even in Nougat.

You would have had to keep bugging them, referencing the same ticket number --frequently, over the past 6 months. With past issues that they have changed their stance on, it took a LARGE upswelling of people bugging them --frequently, for them to finally flip script. (this is that impossible task that I mentioned prior)

All that being said, you might be able to root and install a mod or kernel tweak that might give you both speakers for notifications, but being that you updated it may have temporarily limited your ability to gain root access
