I don't see why it'll go away for, your on android 7, I'm on android 8 and I can assign different ringtones for each of my contacts. If you don't want to update you can swype the notification slowly from right to left and press the gear icon,, then you have options to block that notification.

Hi. My problem here is not with ringtones - it's with text message notifications. I lost it b4, with the S7. It's the same as assigning a ringtone for someone - I get a specific notification sound if my daughter texts. I know it's her because the message notification, is different.

Sorry, I misunderstood you, I believe they've removed that function with the oreo update, there's talk of them bringing that function back, not sure if they will though. You could always opt for another messaging app with that function if you do want to update.

You could use a different message app, which would make the feature independent of what Samsung do.

With a third party message app the tone is apparently assigned to the conversation rather than the phone book entry, as Samsung previously did, but unless you erase all of your messages exchanged with your daughter that makes no difference in practice (if you do you will have to set the tone again).

Thanks guys; but, I included that link, because I asked about this back in June & I already know what u r saying. I am really just hoping someone could tell me if This Update will remove that feature. Yes or no?

Agree. Contact samsung support and/or T-mobile to directly address your concerns.

I use tmobile and im on the latest update. I have note 9s but dont use the stock samsung messenger.

For texting, I use Textra. Its a more robust app and offers more customization than the stock built in message app. You should give a 3rd party text app a try and see if there are more features you can use....
