Help Notification sounds break game sound

Greetings.

I've noticed for some time now that whenever I game on my Galaxy S6 and I receive any notification which produces sound, my game sound is automatically muted and doesn't recover until I exit that particular game and re-enter it.

I do have a custom (non default) notification sound set.

Is there any known problem about this and possible fix for it, or am I just a lone example of more-problems-of-smart-phones-being-broken?

Have you tried putting your phone on vibrate only?
Alternatively, at the risk of missing phone calls, you could put your phone in airplane mode when playing games.

Yes, that works with me. But it is not a fix or resolution I'm hoping for.
