So this may be a misplaced way to make an Android suggestion, and if so, someone 'in the know' please tell me how to do so. (I did look through Android bugs for 'notification tone')
I think it would make Android *even better* to have a basic settings page where you can set different tones for different kinds of notifications. The use case, part 1: someone -apparently- invited me to a group chat by clicking some button on my Google/Blogspot blog (huh, ok, cool), which made a notification on my G1, which played the general notification tone. Part 2: that same notification tone alerts me to new Gmail, which happens All. The. Time.
So I ignored the tone since I was too busy at the time to go looking at some new email. But I may have missed chatting with friends or relatives. Grrr. Distinguishing among these events by sound would be desirable. And Astrid can apparently play different notification tones, so it may be possible.
