Help Notifications: can they be received for any phone app?

I am interested in getting an Android smartwatch and, having never tried one, I have a few questions about how notifications work.

What apps can a smartwatch receive notifications for? Any app which is installed on a phone paired with bluetooth, or only apps with specific AndroidWear companion apps?

I'd like to receive notifications for:

• SMS messages
• private calendar (I use Business Calendar on my phone)
• Whatsapp messages
• private emails (I use k9 mail)
• work emails (I use Good, now called Blackberry Enterprise something, on my phone)
• work calendar (as above)

Will the process be straightforward for all the apps above?
Is any of this changing significantly with AndroidWear 2.0?

Any Android wear app must have a companion app coded for it. Both applications form the complete system. You can't arbitrarily pair up an Android wear app with any phone app via bluetooth (AFAIK)
