Notifications dont show up after downloading theme

I just downloaded a really cool Fallout 3 theme from the market along with Panda Home to use it. I really like it so far, but I noticed that whenever I receive an email or text, i don't see a little number next to the icon like before, so i don't know if I've received anything unless i open it up. Is there a setting that needs to be changed for Panda Home? I notice it still doesnt display with the default theme as well. Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Update:

Since Panda Home crashed everytime I tried to access the settings, I uninstalled it, reinstalled it.....same problem. So I figured the issue was with Panda Home. I decided to pay the few dollars and purchase Open Home, and I can't believe I'm still having this problem.....but then I started thinking....is this actually a problem? or is this a big feature you lose when you are using something other than what the phone comes with? lol I already knew I'd lose the HTC Widgets, which was okay, but it gets annoying when I miss a message because it wasn't showing next to the icon like before. Can anyone help me out with this? I've done tons of google searches and I've found only a couple of threads with people having the same problems as me, but their questions were unanswered just like this thread. So anything at all to point me in the right direction would be great. Thanks.

LauncherPro shows the number of emails over the icon, if you wanted to give it a try.
