Help Notifications For Messeges Not Working

I was getting tired of my storm alerts going off in the middle of the night on my Samsung Galaxy S7, so I shut them off. Now notifications for messages aren't making a noise. Could really use some help, thanks

How did you shut them off in the first place?

Go into settings/sound and notifications, and make sure notification sound is on.

Also look in do not disturb mode, and make sure it's off

I'm a fairly tech savvy person so I'm looking for something deeper than just mere settings. Trust me I've tried that
