Notifications prompts in 4.1.2 LG L9

Hello,

Is there a way to receive a pop-up notification on the LG L9 screen, while the device is locked (As I could configure my iPhone 5?)

For example, to receive the entire SMS message, or 2-3 rows from a new email?

At the moment, I could configure Whatsup application only, to popup a notification while the device is locked.

Can I have a short message from Gmail / SMS / Facebook etc. to pop up on my screen, while the mobile is locked?
