Root Nougat 7.1 on S3- Gti9300

Hi,
Tried again to get Nougat on my old S3. I know this rom is in the development stage, but I actually had it flashed on the phone. The Playstore didn't work, and the contacts list was missing, but camera, gallery and a lot more worked.
The 3rd rom I tried was a nightly( not sure what that is) and I didn't get as far as flashing the stock gapps.
Perhaps I had better wait a bit longer, lol. 20161127_233429.jpg

Messing about again with this S3- trying to get Nougat on it.
In recovery mode and TWRP screen up, I wiped the Dalvik, system and cache. Went then to Install, fund the rom installed to SD card root. It goes away merrily until near the end of the flash, then coughs this up in red.
What am I doing wrong, please
Also Gapps is not loading a PLAYSTORE---can't download anything with out that/
Thanks.

Could be a bad download. Try downloading the ROM again and copying to external SD card and see if you can flash successfully.

Thought 2.8 was a bit long in the tooth, but it worked mostly, so kept with it.
Will have to dig deep in memory bank to update it, lol

Downloaded latest twrp 3.0.2. Twrp page says download img file, .I thought it was a tar file you had to download, or is tar file for initially setting up with Odin ?

When I plug phone in to pc to transfer twrp and rom files, pc says I am transferring to SD card 1 root of directory. When I go to twrp recovery, I can't find SD card 1---it just says ExtSDcard, or ex-sdcard. No twrp tar or img files anywhere.

If you downloaded the image file, you can use the TWRP version that is on your phone to flash the new updated version of TWRP.
In TWRP, select Install, Image, then navigate to the image file and select it. Swipe the arrow to flash.

When I connect to PC, it shows both internal storage and external SD card. I always copy to external SD.

Happy New Year to all.
Got 4 16 GB SD cards here--ALL of them come up as SD card 1 in both S3's. Not an external one anywhere. So obviously TWRP can't find the image file for latest TWRP (3.o.2 something or other). It used to be called Ext Sd card when on 4.3, but both S3's are on 6.0.1 at the mo. When I plug phone into pc, I get a choice as to whether I want to transfer files, or pics or something else, which I believe is a Lollipop or Marshmallow thing. Perhaps it is that which shows ExtSd card up as Sd card 1. Twrp shows Extcard and ext card, but nothing in the files. A mystery to me.

Found the new TWRP file in Downloads in TWRP recovery. Flashed that OK, then forgot to wipe the caches before I got excited and flashed new rom and gapps. Oooops

Due to Cyanogenmod closing, I saw that Lineage has carried on.
Once again, one of the S3's transferred Lineage from Cy mod nearly 100% first time, the other spluttered about a bit, lol.
Both s3's were rooted when Cy-mod 14.1 was on them, not now aparently. It seems Supersu binary is missing. I now have latest TWRP on both.
Update 1/
Downloaded Supersu to pc. Copied file to root of SD- flashed with Twrp- granted permission. Hooray. Rooted again.
The other S3 is fighting me all the way, lol.

Think the other S3 has passed away. I flashed stock rom, then when rebooting, Samsung name just stays in the middle of screen and a double peep every 3-4 seconds. No other software on the phone- no backups- missing.
Don't know about sideloading. By trying to flash stock rom, it would have wiped everything off phone, I take it.
I have tried to re-root- tried to put TWRP on it---all to no avail.
These S3's are only spare phones, but I do try to keep one working for when I go out on motorbike, as the Note 4 is too big to go in my leather jacket pocket.

Yes---keeps coming back to that. Twrp has disappeared from recovery. When I try to get into recovery, there is an option to load from an exterior source, probably SD card . Backup original, twrp, Lineage and gapps are all shown, but do not load. Just a pic of android man on his back with Red Triangle on his chest--as pic. Ooooops.

Try flashing the stock firmware again and this time, uncheck Auto Reboot.
When the flash is complete, disconnect the cable and remove the battery. Replace the battery and
Boot into recovery mode using the button combination and try a factory reset then see if it will boot normally.

Thanks once again JF. Managed to get Twrp back on the phone- then flashed Lineage and gapps. All seemed well, then after rebooting, and it done what it had to, it came up with MPT ( or MTP) Host has stopped. Then Settings decided to come out in sympathy and stopped as well, lol. At least phone is not dead.

I needed a 32GB sd card for my dash cam in the car, so I nicked the one from the S3, having first copied the contents of SD card to the computer.
Now when trying to get a new sd card to work with S3 is proving fruitless. I copied the computer file onto the new sd card- already has latest TWRP on the phone, but sd card will not mount.
Any ideas please ??
Will take a pic of what it says on the screen, but need to find another program like photobucket to post it on here- photobucket not anywhere as good as it was.

Try formatting card in phone first. If phone mounts card, copy files to phone over USB cable directly to card.

Hi,
Can't get anywhere near where you said to do. Phone mounts SD card in TWRP, - both SD and internal phone file lists are shown on pc ,but as soon as cable is taken away from phone, list disappear from pc, and you have to top UN Mount card for the phone to do something.Pic due asap.
