Nvidia Shield questions

Hi everyone,

I have a few Shield K1 questions. They may seem a bit noobish but. I can't find these answers anywhere and don't know own my own Shield (yet).

1. Is the gamepad mapping also available on the Shield K1?

2. Does the gamepad mapping work on every Shield device (so also K1)?

3. Isn't the 2gb ram a bit low? My Xperia Z2 who is quite old already has 3gb...

4. Anyone know if/when Nvidia is relasing a new Shield?

An answer to those questions would be great!

Cheers,

Daan

I can't answer 1 & 2 unfortunately, I had a search and can't find an answer anywhere so you may need to contact nvidia.

2Gb should be fine. If you have a tonne of apps open, you may find some drop out of memory, but it all depends on what you actually want to do with your tablet.

The previous shield tablets have been released in the latter parts of 2014 & 2015, so I can only assume if one is to be released, it will be coming later on in the year. It certainly looks like they're developing something new this year -

Pretty vague, but I hope it helps. :)

El Presidente, thank you very much!
They are reluctant to say anything regarding third party controllers. They did say the gamepad mapping software is integral to the tablet and there are plenty video's of people using third party gamepads so I think it's safe to say it probably works with the raw data of any gamepad you tether.

After some research the memory seems fine. When it really is dated we are likely to be 1 or 2 years further. No problem getting a new tablet by that time.

I have been experimenting on how much I can do on my android phone. In 5 minutes I was running my own hand coded websites locally without a problem. A little usb to micro usb conversion gives easy access to my 2 tb external HDD. From my phone! Man I love android. Definitely investing in a Shield, even if it's just to promote tablet gaming with all it's game streaming technology and what not. If they develop that stuff further then a 200 Euro tablet can play the same games as a 1200 Euro gaming computer. Man, what an age we live in!
Cheers,
Daan
