Off topic once again: fridge cat

I know somebody whose cat can open the refrigerator. I've seen it happen. Would a stronger gasket help? Where would that be available, and for how much?

How can that be? They have no thumbs! :p
get a pair of strong, small magnets; put some 3m double sided tape on them, stick one to the door, stick one to the fridge.....that cat would have to be Hercules to open it lol :D

I like your magnet idea. Or perhaps something to common the refrigerator and freezer doors together so they both will resist the cat.

Cat's don't have an opposing digit but they have a great deal of strength. I have a small scrawny cat. One of her passions is to jump up and grab the top drawer pull in our hall bath.
She then puts her back paws against the drawer below and opens the top drawer. Then she whiles away her time plucking out all of the wash cloths and tosses them on the floor. We had to put child proof latches on our base cabinet doors. She'd lay on her back and reach up and pull them open. I've seen her jump straight up onto a small window ledge that is six feet from the floor. That has to be ten or twelve times her height. They have strength. So far my cat has had no desire to get into my fridge but I have no doubt opening one is a doable task for a cat with a desire.

Well, it's time for fridge cat revisited. Imagine walking into a kitchen with the fridge door WIDE open and the freezer one somewhat less. I put two supposedly strong neodymium magnets up, one on the door and the other across from it at about cat height. Before I got that done I put a chair in front to block access but he just got up on that and opened the freezer door. What's next?

Yeah, there used to be this ad with a room all decorated for Christmas and then these cats came in from practically nowhere and wrecked the whole thing. It was pretty funny. Of course it was an ad for cat toys. Keep the little darlings amused and busy, safely away from the decorations.

There is just no stopping this cat. I super (?) glued two neodymium magnets on, one to the door and the other the "body" of the fridge, result: more stolen cheese. I guess Amazon sells kiddie proof locks for refrigerators. How much do they cost and how troublesome is it to install one?

Well, I finally took the plunge and ordered the dreambaby refrigerator latch from amazon for $6.25. A thing of beauty it is not but I guess it should work. I'll let you know how it is once it arrives, probably Sunday. It does look kind of flimsy. Would E6000 help? I think that's the name of it, a strong craft adhesive.

Is this your cat @Rgarner ?

Ok, it's here, the moment we've all been waiting for...the baby latch. I had the option of paying extra, more than doubling the price, for Saturday delivery. I went for free Sunday delivery. Guess when it arrived anyway. Of course it was overpackaged but they probably want to prevent damage. Anyway, I'm including some pictures of the blessed event.

I wasn't really surprised that the latch came loose. I mean the bigger piece. By the way, if you put one on you should probably install the smaller part that goes on the door first. That should make it easier to position the larger piece on the fridge "body" to work with it. I put that back up, this time with supposed superglue, and it seems to be holding.

It is holding, but once again the cat holds...all the cards, and maybe cheese. This fridge latch may work in some cases, but apparently not this one. What do I do next in this escalating arms (and claws) race?

Seriously, I have to do something (noncruel) about this cat! Just yesterday he stole another piece of cheese out of the fridge. I got it back but not before he bit into it. It was expensive, too. How the heck do I keep him out of there? Also, how do I get a refund from Amazon for that worthless fridge lock?

Is this a side-by-side fridge or a top-bottom type fridge?
This would be the ticket for a side by side:

Unfortunately, it's not. It's a plain regular one. Even when he doesn't actually take anything, it's annoying. It also wastes electricity.
