What are you getting?
I ordered the Alcantara case for it, a silicone case, and a new belt holster. And the new GearVR (Note 8 version). I can't find any information about the difference in this model and the 2016 GearVR... maybe it just has a big enough space for the phone.

A little table top tripod or a full deal tripod? I actually got a big tripod to hold my binoculars for celestial viewing but it works like a champ for the Gear 360 too. Maybe a little tall for doggies, though...

I have a Gear VR that I bought for the Note 7 and a newer Gear VR with controller that I use with my S8. Now I find that my relatively new Gear VR won't accommodate the Note 8. I'm not going to purchase another Gear VR; I have an Axon 7 and a Google Daydream View headset and that will have to satisfy my virtual reality needs.

I ordered an inexpensive bumper case for the Note 8 and, if the Note 8 arrives with a discount coupon, I'll order an Alcantara Cover from Samsung.

Is anyone considering a glass screen protector for the Note 8? I never thought I'd spend $45 for a screen protector, but I bought a Whitestone Dome Glass protector for my S8 and it's been great.

By the way, the inexpensive case I ordered is a Caseology Parallax Series which I purchased for $5.44 (including sales tax). You can purchase Caseology cases for the Note 8 from Amazon for $5.00 using a discount code found here.

I have this screen protector

And this case in my cart on Amazon

Im pretty tapped out after buying out the rest of my LG V20 contract, but in the future I will get a DEX, and maybe the 360 camera.
Thanks for that information. Please let us know how the screen protector works with the case. I had trouble on my S8 with cases lifting the edges of various screen protectors I tried.

yes! the alcantara case and the VR head gear. i think the main difference is it fits the note 8 and is not compatible with the prior one.

ill grab that 360 camera for the win chuck. since i am a camera op as my bread and butter, tripods wont be an issue. :)

i want that kick stand protective case (that military spec) but the website only has it in blue not black, so i gotta wait.

and yes i have the 2017 version of the 256gb samsung evo card.

got my ducks in a row...

ooh that spigen case looks choise. i may have to grab the all black version.

So how happy are you with Spigen? I take it you've had good experiences with that brand? I've only had the Otterbox Defender, and thanks to it my Note 2 has survived a lot of drops. If I'm going to drop $1000 on a phone I want the darned thing protected but that Spigen looks nicer than the Otterbox and is a little easier on the pocketbook.

I'm also curious about what people are planning to do about covering the screen. I know that sounds counter-intuitive, but again, I want the darned thing protected. I was pretty dismayed to see that the Defender doesn't have screen protection. I know about Gorilla glass, but seriously, does anyone really trust that? Or I am just being paranoid?

That's a fact! I just asked that mind-disturbing question... why does their 30 day warranty start with my order, and not when I receive it? That's a week to 10 days of warranty and I don't even have it yet!

Yup. I figure with this one that if I ordered it now the warranty would begin 3 weeks before I received my phone therefore it would only be in useful effect for 1 week! Very clever of this company. Limit their chance of having to refund. On the bright side, this particular screen protector is supposed to be very good.

You know, its been a while since I had a spigen case. Last one was on my galaxy s6 edge.
On my note 7 I went cheaper with a Verus and while it was cheap, and aesthetically pleasing, it had an uncomfortable edge to hold.
Which is why, I now realize the price (which is not so bad, but also not the cheapest) is worth it. They offer a variety of protection levels from a thin silicone, to thicker options.
They are stylish. Cutouts match perfectly. And comfortable to hold.

My only issue ever was that I bought a white slim armor for my Note, and after a while the edges did start to yellow.

I have introduced other friends and family to the brand, and no one else has ever had a complaint about their cases, nor have their phones ever been damaged in one of their cases.

If you want something super ultra protective, while not paying the price of otterbox, I did some across this case from the brand of screen protector I am going with. I have no idea how their products are, but I was considering this case myself, which comes with the screen protector pictured as well.

I will do that.
I am wary of the glass protectors. I have always gone with plastic or film and have never, ever shattered a screen on any phone.
I am convinced the glass covers are designed to break easily in order to absorb/dissipate force, whereas without them, quite possibly nothing would have shattered anyway. And instead of saving cost, you are now having to replace glass covers.

But due to the cost of this phone, I am considering conforming to the newer trend just in the off chance that maybe there is something to these glass covers that people seem to swear by.

This one I posted does say case friendly, and I believe Spigen makes their cases protector friendly as well. So I have faith. But I will be sure to report back.

That screen protector I was looking at isn't even a Spigen... it's GPEL or some obscure company. No wonder! In fact, I don't even see a glass screen protector by Spigen. Oh well, I read it wrong - not the first time...

iBlason is a good company; I've dealt with them before.

GPel is the screen protector company that I posted from Amazon Chief. The one with the very short warranty. But it was listed as one of the top 10 choices on CNET I think. Go figure.

If there is a thread for Bluetooth headsets then I missed it. I am in need of a new one as my Plantronics M165 isn't reliable anymore and it's hard to hear calls in noisy environments. I was a huge fan of the Jawbone brand for many years but it seems as though they might be getting out of the business at least as far as headsets go as I haven't heard/seen any news of new models for a long time. What do you all recommend that has good noise canceling and better than average volume? I'm looking hard at the Plantronics Voyager 5200 as it seems to be listed as a top model in most of the articles I've read. Does anyone here have one and, if so, can you tell me if you've been happy with it?

I'll save you some time, and effort. Skip all the cheap stuff and get the Bose Quiet Comfort 35s. The sound is superb and the noise cancelation is eerie. It's like going in the booth for a hearing test. Yeah, that. They're not cheap, but in my opinion, they're worth every penny.

But if you cover up the back with a case... then you're HIDING the beauty you're so worried about! Why not just keep it case-free and then if you ruin that beautiful back glass, buy a beautiful case to cover it up?

I've never been a case person so I don't really get it... I just don't see the point in covering up the parts of the phone you think are so beautiful that you want to protect them.

Thanks for all the feedback! Actually if the phone I preordered was blue, I might risk not having a case, but since my only choices were gray and black, neither of which I care for, I'm getting a blue case of some type. As for the screen--you have given me a lot to consider. It seems silly to cover the screen and diminish the usefulness of the phone and S-pen with a protector.
