Help Official Gingerbread 2.3.5 (EI20) is available

As of this thread posting, this update is only available through a USCC retail store with a tech center. It is not yet available for download from uscellular.com/androidupgrades.

The update in the store is a full wipe update, so you will want to back up your SMS messages and contacts (easy to do with apps like GO SMS). If all of your contacts are google contacts, you do not have to back them up. If you have any phone contacts, you'll need to back those up to your SD card. A full wipe update means: You will lose all the apps you've downloaded, and you'll have to reinstall everything after the update is complete.

The screen capture glitch appears to be gone (finally) with this update. They also fixed the audio settings that 2.3.4 had. (Some people, myself included, could barely hear callers even with call volume maxed) Battery life does not seem to be improved much. I am also finding that I still need to reboot the phone every 2-3 days, or after playing graphic intensive games like Order & Chaos or Angry Birds. (The benefits of an entire family owning Mez's. I have a built in test fleet)

Any other changes people notice?

I bought my Mes (that my wife now uses) back in March '11. When I stopped in to the USCC store last month to have it updated to the 2.3.5 the tech fellow said that my phone did not need the update. He indicated that the early-made Mesmerize phones don't have some of the issues that the more recently made Mes' have, so mine did not need it?? So, I did not get the update. Since the 2.3.4 update my Mes has been rock-solid.

Good info!

My tech told me this was the "only" Gingerbread update USCC had released, and that it had been out for a couple of months.

I politely tried to explain that 2.3.4 was the original GB release and this release is different, but he couldn't be bothered to listen.

We purchased a new Mez for my son about a month ago, and it was delivered with 2.3.5 installed. It could just be the difference of "one year later" but his screen is amazingly brighter and crisper than mine in virtually every respect.

i didnt notice much differance when mine was updated in the store cause i soft bricked it. luckily the tech guy at uscc said he was a dev for one of the forums, i didnt catch which one lol since i have got the proper odin files to relash to stock gingerbread.
i was trying with swupdater but that flippin app is soooo finicky. anywho i reflashed to stock yesterday in like 15 min.

Yeah, I haven't noticed much difference either, other than the screenshot glitch and audio settings.

The older Mes's shipped with different hardware so that's why the version is different. Talked with the tech for a while about it. So my one year old runs 2.3.4 and the 2.3.5 is for the newer hardware that did have a few glitches...different maker. So he's not lying or being lazy.

I had the screen repaired on my mesmerize, and it shipped back to me wiped with 2.3.5 installed. I never had issues with screenshots or volume, but I do notice that my phone still automatically bumps up the brightness on its own.
I may be remembering wrong, but it seems that 2.3.5 also got rid of elastic scrolling in the menus. Now, when you try to scroll too high/too low, the edges of the screen turn blue, instead of stretching.

Does anyone know how to put ics on a mesmerize running 2.3.5 itz been a while since i have messed with rooting i used to have the moto droid then the x but now im with uscellular and trying to hang of messing with this phone

my gf and I both have mesmerizes. she works at a us cellular agent location and recently had to send her phone out. it came back with 2.3.5 installed. I had her try to upgrade mine at work but her computer didn't have it, she said id probably have to go to a retail store. the only differences we've noticed are the blue when you pull a menu too far, and when you are on your last page of apps if you swipe again it will roll around to the first page and vice versa. she never had problems with in-call volume but mine is horrible. can barely hear it at all. if 2.3.5 fixes that ill definitely be taking a ride out of town to a retail location.

I would NOT recommend getting the update if you have hardware version I500.04, Hardware version I500.05 works well with the update though, that was the main reason for the update.

Anyway to get the update without going to a tech center? does anyone have the tar with all the original files or is there a way to dump it from someones phone without rooting it or changing anything in the system? I have hardware version .05 with EH09 and a friend has hardware version .04 with EI20. I would also like to know why not to get the update if you have hardware version I500.04 since my friend has it and has the update and has had text messaging problems so any input would be appreciated. Called samsung and got no help other than go to a retail store which is 70 miles away or send it in and wait on them which isn't really an option to me since I need my phone and really don't want to drive to get if I don't have to.
