Official Twitter app - push notifications

Hi all,

I've had a search but could find what I'm looking for.

The last Twitter app update promised push notifications. I may be thick, but how do you enable this?

I've had a few messages and tweets recently but had no notification. Notifications are enabled in the settings and my refresh interval is 4 hours to save battery but if notifications are push then surely the refresh interval doesn't really matter?

Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong?

Thanks

I tried the app today, yes, the word buried is correct.

Twitter ---> Menu ---> Settings ---> Your account name

I guess they did it this way so you could have different notification settings for different accounts. Lets see if they work.

If that is the case, it will take forever for me to find out. I receive a DM or @mention once per month :)

I can't think of too many people who would want a push notification when they received a tweet; even after thinning out my list which is horrendously small compared to most, I can't sit on twitter.com for longer than a few seconds before the "X new tweets" bar shows up. That would be downright frustrating on my phone and I'd probably uninstall the app in short order. I know this isn't the case for 100% of twitterfolk as some people just have family and/or close friends on their list, but the decision was probably more made for the majority.

I decided to create a second twitter account just for receiving notifications for the few tweets I really care about getting in realtime. I previously had used the SMS notification feature for selected accounts, but didn't like them cluttering up my SMS app.

What I really want is the ability to configure push notifications for specific lists.

For me it's definately DMs/mentions that are appropriate - far too many tweets in my lists+timeline. The client works really well for this - it's fantastic after only using polling clients.

Hoping the other more capable clients will add PUSH soon.
