OK Google only searches my queries, doesn't execute commands.

After trying the "OK Google" function a bit (I'm Dutch, so I have to use English, which is why it's just "trying out" at this stage), I found that none of the commands work.

Whenever I would say "OK Google remind me to buy milk at 5 p.m." for example, it will just look that phrase up in Google Now.

Even something as simple as "OK Google go to Google.com" will only yield a search for that sentence in Now.

I've set it up as directed by the Google howto, even using some tips from other forum threads, but nothing so far has helped.

What am I doing wrong?

P.S. I'm using a Nexus 7 2013 with 4.4.3, unrooted.

is Google Now enabled (should go through setup when you launch the Search app) because what seems to be going on is just voice search itself, not Google Now.

Keep in mind that unlike S-Voice, Andy for Android or any othe voice assistant, Now is extremely limited and Google is not adding any extra commands yet. it cannot even turn on silent mode, switch wifi on/off or even play/pause music. something that i consider basic features. oft-times when it does not understand your voice or the command (it is extremely picky and it makes me giggle how so many hate S-Voice when it works perfectly fine in comparison) it just performs a standard search. about all it is good for is asking it the weather, but even that is moot since it shows a weather card at all times.

Google Now is definitely turned on. I've been using it long before I started using OK Google (which is today).

I'm not necessarily interested in the commands for turning on wifi or the like. If I can simply execute the commands given on Google's own page, I'd be pleased as punch.

Then again, it could be another setting in Google Now I'm currently unaware of. As it stands, though, none of the settings have me scratching my head. It all seems pretty straightforward.

given that it got so much wrong on my end, (it kept throwing time to home after i was already there, gave me weather from another country, or telling me i was '0 minutes to work' after i got to work.) and the too-limited voice control (i'm a bit of a trekkie and love voice control over fingerprints so i think it is stupid that Google cannot add in basic voice commands that existed for ages) i just gave up on it and use S-voice.

Like the rest of Google's Apps, it's extremely broken and only works 1/3 the time and for me that is unacceptable. Google has recently gotten into this habit of releasing unfinished software and never following through with bug fixes or additional features. indeed, sometimes an update removes features, or hides them behind some gesture that is never revealed.

Try "好吧,谷歌" ...works for me....JK! Actually I don't use it, I found
"it's extremely broken and only works 1/3 the time"...as Nick says. I did find that Google works better when I speak to it in Mandarin, not English, even though I'm not a native speaker.
