OK GOOGLE

Does anyone else have trouble with Ok Google working properly when the screen is off on the Galaxy Note 4? I have tried everything that other people say they tried. It will work the first couple times after retraining the voice detection, then it quits working.

Thanks Wayne, hopefully there will be a fix, as it is very irritating. I really like saying ok google and having it send a message for me.

Yes, I'm having the same problem. Worked well with my S3 but can't do a thing with the Note4. Went to Best Buy where they have a Samsung team helping those with problems. 3 different 'experts' worked on my phone to no avail! One was successful in the store and it actually worked for almost a whole day. In the end it was suggested I call Google and see what they can do. Google's numbers: 650.253.0000; 877.994.6798.

Javamann, thanks. I did what you did as well. The Samsung guy's at best buy could not do anything to fix the issue.

I'm not sure if it's related but going to start here anyway...Recently my Note 3 was being attacked with ads popping up no matter what screen I was on...not sure exactly what caused it but while changing settings and uninstalling recent apps something happened to my "Ok Google". I cannot get it to work again. The ads have stopped but my phone will not recognize when I say ok google. In addition, when texting I used to be able to tap the microphone and speak my text (using the google voice to text) and now it just says Google is unavailable then closes.

I've check google settings and have tried to retrain the voice but it keeps saying "can't use the microphone. Restart your device" (see attached screenshot). I have, even removed battery for a bit and help power button to discharge it completely...nothing. Cleared the system cache and checked every app I can think of that could be interferring...can't find anything.

I've used the mic with the speakerphone and I've opened voice recorder and recorded perfectly from it just lying on my desk so it is picking up good sound even from arms length.

I cannot figure out what could have caused it to stop recognizing the microphone...maybe a disabled app? Anyone have clues? Thanks in advance...I really miss that option.

hmm. I just got done setting up my Ok Google voice recognition setting but have not test it while the screen is off. And now I'm testing it now. My screen is off and it worked on my note 4 with the screen locked and off. My Ok google responded fine by turning the screen on and showing up asking me what to tell it to do. Try retraining the voice recognition again while you hold the phone with each recording at different distance but not more than 10 inches away from you. Each time you recorded it you should see the voice analyizer moving on the screen signifying that it's picked up your voice at each different inches from your face. Keep doing that until you have completed the 4 different voice recognition setting.
