Help "Okay Google" feature not responding reliably

When my new Nexus 6 is on lock screen it is not picking up my voice unless I have it very close to my mouth.

My Moto X can hear me from 5 times the distance as the Nexus 6.

Anyone else have this issue, or does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you,

Eric

never had a moto X so can't comment.

I have a stock, non rooted NEx 6 on sprint with 5.1. no case and no 3rd party launcher. I can be 3 feet and it will pick up my voice just fine.

Mater of fact, just did this whilst watching Judge Judy in the background--heard me with no issue. I even have a police scanner app running (hey don't judge me! LAPD police scanner stuff is interesting.. ;-) )

perhaps re-train the app to your voice and make sure you have it set to run whilst screen is off.

My phone is free of all incumbrances. I think that it might be defective, I retrained the voice many times. When I say okay google, my Moto X and laptop that are far away spring into action and my new Nexus 6 does not. Kind of frustrating. Just wanted to make sure no one else is having this issue. Other than this issue the phone is working flawlessly and I love it.

And... it seems to have this issue only on lock screen.
I enabled it to work on lock screen. And it does work on lock screen but not as well as when it is not on lock screen

Ah ha. I figured it out. I am kind of an idiot, i guess. When I was training the voice I kept repeating okay google. Instead of just saying it one time for each clip. NOW it works. SO HAPPY.
