Old e-mails keep loading

Newbie
Just recently my S3 started reloading old e-mails. It shows up inthe notification bar and there is a number on the e-mail icon. When I open the e-mail account it shows e-mails from 2-3 weeks ago that were read and deleted. I have already cleaned the application and system cache but the problem keeps occuring. I am on Verizon, all software up to date and using the stock e-mail app. This just started happening 2 days ago,
Any help would be appeciated. Thanks

It could just be a temporary glitch in the system. I remember Blackberry having that issue off and on for years (and missing emails/texts, etc ).

The stock email app can accommodate many online email providers. Which one(s) are you using?

Have you checked to be sure they are not being forwarded from another account?

Try starting over by clearing cache AND data from the email utility. Reboot and that should do it if it's in the OS rather than a carrier boo-boo.

Hopefully I fixed the problem. In one of the POP accounts (same provider for both POP accounts) there were 4 e-mails that had jpeg attachments and these were the same e-mails that kept loading. I moved them to a folder on the e-mail server and the reloading problem went away. They must have gotten stuck in some kind of download loop between the server and the phone. My other POP account has over 300 e-mails sitting in the inbox and doesn't cause any problems even though a lot of those e-mails have jpeg attachments. Just one of those bugs that happen, but at least The phone is back to normal.

This happens quite regularly on my S3. Last week it tried to download 71 previously deleted e mails. Also had this problem on my old Galaxy S after I upgraded from froyo to gingerbread
