"One is fine by me"

TLew

Lurker
A friend and I just noticed this today on our phones. If you send a text with the phrase "One if fine by me" (without the quotes) it will turn that phrase into a hyperlink that goes to random places through Google Maps. Most I had went to Restaurants and Hotels around Detroit.

Couldn't find any info about this. Anyone else know anything about it?

Hi there, TLew. Welcome to Android Forums! :)

I really never text, but this might give me a reason to. :D

Hopefully, someone else will know more about it. It sounds like fun--sort of an Easter egg--and makes me wonder if there might be others.

Welcome to AF, TLew.:)

For those of you that are getting results, who exactly are you texting this to?
I know the question was asked, but TLew never addressed it.
I am sure I could get a hundred different responses depending on who I send this little tidbit to.;)

Don't carve this in stone, but I assumed from the OP that they were sending texts to each other: "A friend and I just noticed this today on our phones. If you send a text with the phrase..." But the assumption could just as well be made that they weren't.

You have to send it without the period at the end. I tried it with a period first and nothing. Then without and it linked me to all the hotels in my area.

I put out a FB message and had several friends text me and I texted them back with this. So who it was sent to/from did not seem to matter.

I have a Razr M, but my friend has a Galaxy S III. Total there were multiple makes models involved but it didn't matter so long as each phone was on Android. Didn't do anything on iPhones and Windows phones we tested.

We haven't checked the OS version yet.

Also. Sorry for the delay. I was away the last several days and hadn't checked in on the thread.

Just tested it messaging myself and received link to nearby hotels each time.

Then I noticed that it also turned the message into a link in my SENT message (on my side of the conversation), not only the received one. As soon as it was sent it became hypertext.

So I sent to a friend and it did the same. I don't know if he received it but my sent version became a link. This time to a nearby gallery, though.

I'm on an AOKP rom, so it seems it is Android specific and not any manufacturer.

We should try to determine what differences cause people NOT to have this happen.

Is it network-provider specific as well as platform (android)? Country? (I'm in the UK, and I guess a lot of you are in the States)

It did it for me. I'm on a Samsung Galaxy S2. It converts it before it even sends it so I doubt it has anything to do with the carrier. It also came up wiith an entire list of places, including apartment complexes, restaurants, hotels, a pet fish store, and a automotive repair shop. I am running JB 4.1.2 by the way....
