Help One X - default partitions

I've never had an Android phone with completely built-in memory, and have been wondering about how it will be different to what I've got now.

On my Desire I have 5 partitions: cache, data and system on the phone, and ext and SD-card on my 32gb SDHC card.

On the One X will there will be four partitions, i.e. the same as above but with data and SD-card merged? Or still the five, but obviously all on the phone? Will the main bulk of the memory be accessible via USB mass storage, e.g. thru Windows Explorer? Any ideas on the likely sizes of the partitions, and how much will be free for user use?

Thanks

Rob

It is quite hard to answer you because the One X is not available yet and there are quite a few rumors about it. I think the One X's partitions will most likely be similar to the Galaxy Nexus, but we can never be sure. I have heard rumors saying that the One X will have a virtual SD card (but again, rumors are not to be trusted).
What I can tell you is this: if the One X is similar to the Galaxy Nexus in terms of storage and partitions, you will not have USB mass storage at all (so you cannot just plug the phone into your PC and use it as a portable hard drive). Instead, when you connect the phone to your PC with USB connection, you will use Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) to transfer music, videos. Needless to say, MTP is troublesome and really slow, and of course, because it is a media protocol, you can only transfer music, videos and pictures (even documents don't work). Personally, I will never buy a phone without microSD card and removable batteries.
Btw, forgot to mention, the Galaxy Nexus has only one single partition, which is the reason why it does not have Mass Storage functionality.

Thanks, huy_lonewolf. Hmm, this does concern me a bit as I don't want some convoluted interface for file management. Guess we'll have to wait and see what further details emerge....

That guy mike1986. is really awesome (I am using his ARHD ROM on my Sensation, and it works so much better than stock). So the One X indeed has a SD partition after all. I will be waiting for the One X to see how it works.

Yeah, he's a pretty smart dev. When/If I pick up the X tomorrow, I'll be flashing ARHD on my Desire HD for the Mrs as she'll be inheriting that.

And I'm glad it has an SD Partition too, trying to copy stuff to my TF101 when connected in MTP mode is very temperamental and it will crash half way through mdeia transfer half the time.

I'm a little confused as to what this means tbh. What does this mean in terms of installing applications? I really like the look of the One X, but if the partitions mean that I can't install new apps despite having tons of space available for music/videos/pictures (as is the case with my Desire), then I'll have to give it a miss.

There has to be an /sdcard mount point for many standard Android apps to work.

User apps go to /data/app, the X will accommodate more apps than a Desire.

Thanks for explaining. :)

Do you happen to know how much is specifically reserved for apps and whether it's possible to move apps to the (virtual) SD card?

I currently own a Desire HD and it has a 1gb internal memory, and I hate it. I am a very heavy app user, and also got lots of email accounts on my phone. I am constantly reminded by my phone that I have little memory left in my internal memory. If I want to update apps or sync my accounts I will have to make space (must be more than 100mb) I have deleted so many apps I that I love and so many emails and msgs.
I didnt know why was the reason to make so many partitions, but now I know that it was for Mass USB Storage, but I think its a waste of money to purchase such a expenssive money and only be able to use 2gb out of 32gb for apps. Is there any way to increase the internal memory in the HTC One X? like move some phone storage into the internal storage. The main reason I wanted to switch my Desire HD was because of the annoyance about the internal memory.
I was about to purchase this phone until I found that the HTC One X only has 1 more gb of internal storage than the Desire HD.
