OnePlus Bans Off-Site Giveaways

I think this is a bad move personally.

With more invites floating around, we are seeing a number of auctions/contests/giveaways take place away from the OnePlus forums community. After much discussion, we have decided to disallow any such events to occur away from the forums and will permanently ban forum users who violate this rule. There are a few reasons for this:

1. We don't want to see people getting scammed. We'd hate to see one of our forum members get scammed as a result of participating in an invite auction offsite, where we have no power to help the victims.

2. We don't want to see people monetizing the invites. Invites are free, and they will be given out in at a growing pace in the coming weeks. Don't pay for an invite. Chances are, you'll get yours very soon.

3. We want the invites to stay within our community. If you do have invites to give away, please offer them your friends, family, and people within our community. They people are more deserving than those who buy them.

I've seen many people who had invites they weren't going to use give them away on google + or the like before they expire.

They have to find a better balance between keeping people from selling them and actually allowing people to get their hands on an invite.

They're do that to combat people selling them. It would appear they were none to pleased with people trying to sell invites on eBay and other places.

the original plan of putting a 24h time limit on invite claims is enough to resolve the resale issue. when the time expires, they select the next person in the queue.

people can still give their invites to whomever they want, just not for profit or through contests/giveaways offsite.

Notice the edit added to their post about 30 minutes ago. It seems to soften their position a little.

EDIT: Clarification (or TL: DR)

Your invites to share are for you to do whatever you want with them but please, if you decide to give them away randomly or on a contest that is held outside our forums, please refrain from posting any links to it in the forums.
