OnePlus is a wholly owned subsidiary of Oppo

But a document from the Shenzhen Municipal Market Supervisory Authority (SIPO) files shows that OnePlus has one institutional stockholder and that is (drum roll please) Oppo.

A thread had been opened on 1+1's forum, but swiftly deleted.

How does this change your view of the company or your feelings about the OnePlus One phone?

If the company wants one high-priced line under ne name and another low-priced line under another name ...

Honda-Accura. No one seems to have problem with that, and neither one advertises the connection.

Maybe I missed that day in school, but I judge phones on quality, price, features, tech support ... not on who owns stock in the company. Oppo owning OnePlus doesn't do anything for me as a user, any more than Acer owning Gateway does, good or bad.

Exactly. Don't see why this is a big deal.

I don't think we are trying to make it a big deal, but obviously it's a big deal to Oppo if it's true and they've hidden it from day one, portraying OnePlus as a startup comprised of Oppo fugitives. Why the rouse?

Edit:

They've squashed a second thread on their forum about this.

I'd imagine we're going to hear something official from either Oppo or OnePlus in the very near future.

Link corrected, but it's dead anyway.

This thread was closed but later re-opened. Below is the most relevant reply from a OnePlus staff member:

We will not close this thread. Most of people don't care who owns OnePlus, some of them in Western countries barely know OPPO.
Since the beginning, we have promised our devices will ship in Q2. We are end of April, the OnePlus One has been unveiled and we will be ready to ship thousands of them soon. Major upgrades in the OnePlus such as Snapdragon 801 have caused delays in the manufacturing process. This happens to all the major companies. How many users will wait for their brand new Sony device?
We stand on what we promised since the beginning, I think this is being transparent and honest. We have nothing to hide. Our flagship killer will be available to most of you in Q2, period. No matter what our competitors or haters say to discredit our company. We are fully working to make it happen early as possible.
In case you have any complaints or critics regarding things we said, feel free to contact us. We will take time to provide you with clear explanations.

don't see where the lie is,

peter lau being a former oppo employee was known from jump street. oneplus has been forthcoming about oppo being an investor and manufacturer of their phone. startup companies need investors and capital to get started.

i don't see the issue.

I can understand Oppo being a major investor because they do have to get startup capital from somewhere, we don't have angel investors in China. Well not in the same way it works in the USA. However I do think there's more of a connection between them than they're letting on about.

A supposedly big deal of the OnePlus One is that it's a CyanogenMod phone, yet the Ones in China are coming with Oppo's ColorOS and NOT CyanogenMod. And I believe it is Oppo that are handling OnePlus's warranty and repair service as well, in China at least.

I think the big deal was that OnePlus were attacking other manufacturers, including their own investor, and possibly parent company. As far as I'm concerned, given that the One here comes with Oppo's ColorOS by default, the One and the Find 7 are very much the same smart-phone, apart from some cosmetic differences.

BTW it was OnePlus that first gave me the idea of buying an Oppo Find, because the phones are really so similar. And I can get an Oppo now, instead of having to wait till June and dicking around with invites.

still, this doesn't mean they aren't really a start up or that they're a plot by oppo to break into the US market(which would be a bad way to go about it).

it does explain why they won't make a profit for 2 years.
