OnePlus One taller than Note 3?

I've seen a lot of people complaining about the height of the OnePlus One compared to phones like the Galaxy Note 3 and curious to hear some opinions besides "that sucks".

Although it's taller it's also much thinner in width and depth. Then consider the price and it seems somewhat unbeatable for me. That is... once we determine it works fine and dandy with hands-on.

Being nearly 5mm narrower than my Note 3 while implementing a smaller display leaves me wondering if this display is narrow and tall. It's disappointing that the length is so long. Even if it was 4 or 5mm shorter that would help, but longer than a Note 3 is awfully large.

Oh sure the price is attractive but I'm not sure that's enough to make up for the rather odd form factor. The upcoming Nexus 6 is shaping up to be quite impressive.

Yeah I'm not liking the fact that it has a smaller screen but yet it's bigger that the Note 3. Capacative buttons needs to go away...like forever.

These exact dimensions illustrate the differences

OnePlus One - 5.5"
152.9 x 75.9 x 8.9mm

Galaxy Note 3 - 5.7"
151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3mm

Google Nexus 5 - 5.0"
137.9 x 69.2 x 8.6mm

The soon to be announced Note 4
will have a 5.8" display in a slightly smaller body.

It is the price for me, and what I get for my money. Although I do wonder about OnePlus's ability to be viable in the long term. Given what it might take to manufacture a quality high-specced phone, which I believe could be as much as $200, by the time they include BofM and labour costs. That's not including R&D, admin, logistics, and other overheads.

I've slept on it and am now ready to give my opinion. I like the looks of the device better than the short and fat Note 3. It will also be a little easier to handle because it's a bit narrower. I totally disagree with Orion that capacitative buttons need to go away--I want them and don't want to throw away valuable screen space. (Thinking of the difference in using my S4 vs. Nexus 5). To each his own, and that's exactly what OnePlus has provided for by giving us a choice. The space used at the bottom of the device is not "wasted" on capacitative buttons only some of us want. That room is being used for internal components (like the speakers) as well. The bottom bezel of my Nexus 5 is about the same size as my S4's, and we all know why the M8 has a black bar below the screen--space needed for internal components. Why not use that space for capacitative buttons and have more screen?

The bottom line is that I think it looks great and has good utility.

Well I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree. Moto and LG does it right. Hopefully you enjoy the phone and give us a review on it.

FWIW I'm very used to capacitive buttons in the bezel, rather than on-screen ones that a few devices have. Every device I've had so far has had them. Anyway doesn't having the buttons on the screen instead of the bezel waste screen real-estate?

In fact it's such a force habit especially with the back capacitive button, when I'm using an iPhone especially with WeChat, I tap the area to the right of the home button, and then wonder why nothing happens.... LOL

The idea is the software buttons allow the bezzle to be smaller and ultimately have more screen on the front of the device.

KitKat introduces immersive mode for a lot of media so the keys and status bar are hidden, allowing whatever youre looking at to take advantage of the entire screen.

I've hardly seen anything of Kitkat yet. Most of my recent Android phone experience has been with Chinese, Jellybean phones and Samsungs.
